TDP Candidate Elected as Deputy Mayor of Tirupati

Tirupati: The position of Deputy Mayor in the Tirupati Municipal Corporation was secured by the TDP, which is part of the NDA alliance. The election, which was postponed yesterday due to a lack of quorum, was held on Tuesday at the SV University Senate Hall in Tirupati. The election saw intense competition between the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the alliance, but the TDP candidate, Munikrishna, emerged victorious.

Tirupati Municipal Corporation has a total of 50 divisions, with 47 corporators, and 3 vacant seats. For the Deputy Mayor election, 26 votes were required. YSRCP MP Gurumurthi, along with his 21 YSRCP corporators, attended and supported their candidate Bhaskar Reddy. However, Munikrishna, the TDP candidate, secured 26 votes, while Bhaskar Reddy received 21, and the election officer declared Munikrishna as the Deputy Mayor.

Ahead of the election, there were concerns from the YSRCP that the ruling alliance might resort to force, leading them to file a petition in court for additional security. In response, the court ordered the police to provide extra security at the election venue. SP Harshvardhan Raju confirmed that Section 144 was imposed in Tirupati, and 30 police actions were implemented. Notices were also issued to individuals who might create disturbances.
