CM Presents Caste Census Report
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy presented the Caste Census Report for 2024 in the Telangana Assembly. The report highlights the population percentages of SCs, BCs, STs, and Muslim minorities in the state. A comprehensive caste survey across households will be conducted in February 2024. The data will be used to formulate welfare policies. The survey covered 1.12 crore households across rural and urban areas over 50 days. CM Presents Caste Census Report in Telangana Assembly
Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly sessions have commenced, and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy presented the Caste Census Report for 2024. During the presentation, CM Revanth Reddy stated that according to the survey, there are 61,84,319 SCs (17.43%) in the state. He mentioned that BCs (excluding Muslim minorities) make up 46.25% of the population, with a total of 1,64,09,179 BCs. STs number 37,05,929 (10.45%) and Muslim minorities stand at 44,57,012 (12.56%).
He also highlighted that out of the Muslim minorities, BCs account for 35,76,588 (10%). The Chief Minister mentioned that the report includes details on social, economic, employment, and education aspects of the communities. He confirmed that a comprehensive caste survey across households will be conducted in February 2024. Studies from other states like Karnataka and Bihar were carefully examined, and various community and intellectual opinions were incorporated into the survey.
Regarding the OBCs, CM Revanth shared that in the Muslim minorities, the OCs are 8,80,424 (2.48%). Across the state, the total OCs stand at 56,01,539 (15.79%), and excluding Muslim minorities, OCs are 47,21,115 (13.31%).
The caste survey data will be used for the formulation of welfare policies. The survey, conducted over 50 days, covered 66.39 lakh households in rural areas and 45.15 lakh households in urban areas, totaling 1.12 crore families. CM Revanth assured that the caste census was more thorough than the population census, with stickers affixed to every household. Enumerators were able to survey no more than ten homes per day, ensuring comprehensive details were recorded in an eight-page questionnaire. Around 76,000 data entry operators worked for 36 days, spending ₹125 crore to collect and process the data, ensuring completion within the year the decision was made.
