Abhishek breaks Virat's record in T20!

In the five-match T20 series against England, India's young opening batsman Abhishek Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, playing a key role in Team India's 4-1 series victory. Notably, this cricketer, born in Punjab, dominated the England bowling attack in the fifth T20 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, scoring 135 runs off just 54 balls. His innings included 13 sixes, a record for the most sixes hit by an Indian batsman in a single international T20 match.

In the five-match series, Abhishek Sharma accumulated 279 runs, surpassing the record for the most runs by an Indian batsman in a bilateral T20 series against England. In the five-match T20 series against England in 2021, Virat Kohli had scored 231 runs.

Despite his remarkable achievement, Abhishek Sharma is not yet the player with the most runs in a single T20 series for India. That record belongs to Tilak Varma, who scored 280 runs in four innings against South Africa in 2024, including consecutive centuries.

Most runs by an Indian batsman in a single T20I series:

280 – Tilak Varma (4 innings) vs South Africa, 2024
279 – Abhishek Sharma (5 innings) vs England, 2025
231 – Virat Kohli (5 innings) vs England, 2021
224 – KL Rahul (5 innings) vs New Zealand, 2020
